Emancipation 22

Happy Emancipation Day, Jamaica !

Emancipation Day is of great historical significance to Jamaica and many other countries across the world that were formerly part of the British Empire.

Plantation slavery came to an end at midnight on July 31, 1838, and so August 1 is the anniversary go the day when slavery came to and end.

Mangroves

Mangrove Monday !

Started this Monday a little different with the team from the Forestry Division and the UWI marine biology lab.

I reviewed the project to restore Mangroves along the Palisadoes Strip, while also toured the protected area including Refuge Cay.

I was inspired by the work being done, but reminded of the great challenges we face!

International Day of Biological Diversity 2022

“Building a shared future for all life” is the theme of International Day for Biological Diversity for 2022. The theme was chosen to continue developing momentum and support the post -2020 global biodiversity framework at the forthcoming UN Biodiversity Conference.

The Day was first established by the United Nations in 1993. The goal of the day is to raise awareness about the importance of biodiversity and the need to protect it. Biodiversity is the essential survival of all life on Earth. It helps to provide food, water, and other resources that we need to live.
